Saturday Scruples
I'm still having trouble figuring out what day it really is...being caught away from home for several days longer than expected due to the recent blizzard in DC can do that...but I'm assured that today really is Saturday. Which means that its time for Saturday Scruples. Hosted by the lovely Phoxxe.
1. You're interviewing candidates for a job. The best qualified applicant is overweight. Do you hire this person? Unless the job were for something like runway model, in which case this person wouldn't be the best qualified applicant anyway, YES. Weight has nothing to do with the brain.
A loved one is in a car accident and is dying. You're asked to donate his organs for a transplant. Do you? (note: you don't know the persons wishes.) This is a tough one, but if its a loved one I would think that at some point we would have at least mentioned this to each other. I would have to say if I really didn't know, but knew that a transplant would be viable, then probably. (Just as an FYI to those that know me... I am not a organ donor, not that I wouldn't like to be, but I know what would probably happen...)
Your adolescent children ask if you ever smoked marijuana when you were young. You did. Do you admit it? Yes. My parents raised me knowing that they weren't perfect, having been around in the 60's :) and they believed that if they talked to us about stuff we would be better armed to "Just Say NO". I was also told that if I wanted to experiment to let them know and they would help me out. They figured, and rightly too, that a controlled environment was better than doing it on the street and probably less fatal.

Irritation and Amusement
Okay, so I was setting up the VCR to tape Adult Swim...or at least the shows I want to watch. Only to find out that they've removed Inuyasha! Talk about annoying!
So, I decided to see if any of the companies that will be in the dealers room at Katsucon will have it. Lucky me, there is one that has it listed in stock.
However, while I was searching for these companies, I ran a search on Inuyasha in general. One of the sites I found was "Which character are you?" test for the Inuyasha anime.
Here's me:

3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? Usually once or twice in a two week period. Not really.
4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that?
Don't know yet.

Shock...
Its sad, really. I can remember what I was doing when I heard taht the Challenger exploded. I remember feeling very sad for the families of those astronauts, and sad for the people that worked at NASA.
I was having a lovely Saturday, having woken up late because of this da&* bug. Mom called to chat about this and that, including what my little brother was up to. (He's in the Army, serving on a Blackhawk crew). Then she asks me if I've been watching TV...now I'm thinking the worst (bro is "over there")...Bush did it...he declared war on someone...but no...she tells me the Challenger exploded during landing manuevers.
Run into the living room, hand the remote to the husband, tell him the Challenger exploded, find a news channel, run back into the bedroom, hear husband state it was the Columbia not the Challenger...realize that my head isn't screwed on straight...tell Mom I will talk to her later, hang up phone and stare at TV for an hour.
First it was the Challenger, then it was 9/11, now its the Columbia. What next? Nothing, I hope.
My thoughts, prayers and hugs go out to the families, loved ones and friends of the crew of the Columbia. They will not be forgotten.

Suprise!
What do you know....I'm here tonight.
Here's something I just don't get... I'm off to an interview tomorrow and they sent me an application to fill out. Now that's not too bad, you say...Really? They want the last 5 employers, pay ranges, etc and on top of all of that...5 professional references.
Okay, I realize that some companies might need this from someone just starting out, but from someone that's been employed for let me see....way too long? A good, professional/technical resume is all they should need. Why should I fill this thing out? Why should I bother going to an interview with this company?
I'll fill out as much as I can, but I'm sure that at least some of you understand the problem...other employees leave a company and Wham! you no longer have a name to put under supervisor, or the company moves and doesn't forward their new address and phone number to ex-employees...
ARGH~!@!!!!!!
Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes.
